Built on the idea that a renovation should be a good experience.

RTC Renovations is the trading name of Robert Thompson Contracting, a Waterloo design-build renovation company founded by Chad Thompson in 2007. We plan, build and finish kitchens, bathrooms, basements, additions and whole-home renovations across Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.

More than a hundred completed renovations. Fifteen-plus trade partners we have worked with for years. One process for all of it.

From one tradesperson to a team you can hand the whole project to.

RTC began in 2007 with a simple intention: give homeowners in Kitchener-Waterloo a renovation contractor who would plan properly, communicate clearly and build to a standard worth photographing. Nearly two decades later the company has grown into a full design-build team working across Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge, but the intention has not changed.

Our own crews handle demolition, framing, drywall, tile and finish carpentry. For plumbing, electrical, cabinetry, countertops and the other specialist trades we work with a group of local partners, many of whom have been on our sites for years. You see the same faces throughout your project, whether it is a kitchen, a bathroom, a basement, an addition or a whole-home renovation.

What sets the experience apart is the process. Nine steps, each with a decision point, the first four at no cost. You approve a proposal, a concept, a scope and a schedule in writing before construction starts, and payments follow milestones rather than the calendar. It is how we keep surprises out of your renovation.

Chad founded RTC in 2007 and remains hands-on, from the first site visit to the final walkthrough. Clients and designers describe the same things: a skilled craftsman, clear communication, and a team that shows up when it says it will.

What we hold ourselves to.

Plan first

We would rather spend an extra week on drawings than an extra month on site. Scope, budget and schedule are agreed in writing before demolition.

One accountable team

A single project manager, our own crews and trade partners we have worked with for years. Nobody is being introduced to your home halfway through.

Finish like we mean it

The last five percent, trim alignment, caulk lines, hardware spacing, is where a renovation either looks installed or looks finished. We care about that part.

Insured, bondable and WSIB covered.

Fully insured

RTC carries full insurance on every project, from demolition to the final walkthrough.

Bondable

Robert Thompson Contracting is bondable, for clients and projects that require it.

WSIB coverage

Our team is covered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. Whoever you hire, ask to see proof of WSIB coverage and liability insurance before work starts.
